VDL Container Systems started in 1999 in an empty production hall, without machines and without any orders at Metaalweg 6 in Hapert. With only a few highly skilled employees, the design department, the sales team and a management with enough know-how, the start was made to set up a factory for container handling systems within VDL.

In the first full year of production, about 300 systems were immediately sold. A strong sales team set up an extensive dealer network in the Netherlands and Germany, which is still being expanded.

After 5 years it was decided to expand the product range by acquiring Smits Spreader Systems. Previously these spreaders were manufactured under the name of Mandigers.
Partly due to the many agreements in the field of development, production and after-sales, a healthy growing company has emerged after the integration.
The enormous growth in the sixth to tenth years, with turnover increasing fivefold, meant that we grew at the seams and a move to our current premises at Industrieweg was necessary.

VDL Groep has announced the ambition to become a world player in the electrification of so-called heavy-duty mobility. VDL also aims to take up a leading position in the field of battery management systems, charging infrastructure and energy storage.

... not only the innovation itself, but also the context in which it will be implemented is focussed on. This is turnkey, due to the great interest of the automotive industry for the Dutch economy
