SHIP-TO-SHORE SPREADERS
A spreader you can rely on
Your ship-to-shore spreaders operate day and night and are subjected to heavy shock loads. We have taken this into account in our design. For example, we minimize the use of electronics and mechanical, rotating components. This reduces the chance of downtime, allowing you to rely on the availability of your spreader.
HEAVY-DUTY HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS
Two critical components of our ship-to-shore spreader (the telescopic system and the flippers) use cylinders. These components move linearly instead of rotating and are therefore less susceptible to failures. Additionally, they require less maintenance and are quicker and cheaper to service, repair, and replace.
24/7 AVAILABILITY THANKS TO DOUBLE MOTOR AND PUMP SYSTEM
When you use your spreader intensively and under harsh conditions, there is always a chance that something may break. To prevent complete downtime, our spreaders are equipped with a double motor and pump system. This clever hydraulic design ensures that if one of the two systems experiences a failure, the other system continues to operate. And so does your spreader.

BESPOKE SHIP-TO-SHORE SPREADERS
At VDL Container Systems, we customize the design of your spreader to suit your needs. We supply spreaders for 20 and 40 ft containers, but you can also opt for a 45 ft stop. The modular building blocks make it possible to configure the spreader according to your preferences.
Modular features
Twinlift
With our twinlift option, you can pick up two 20 ft ISO containers simultaneously from the ship. Want to save even more time? Then opt for the ‘separating twinlift’ option. With a sliding arm, you create extra space between the two containers during lifting. This makes it easier and quicker to pick them up on the quay.
Memory system
Especially for our separating twinlift, we have developed a memory system that allows you to continuously program the distance between two containers.
Capacity Increase or Decrease
Do you process your containers with a weight less than your maximum capacity? Then we can also design lighter spreaders for you. Need a system that can carry more weight? No problem.
Height detection
With our height detection, your crane automatically receives a signal when the spreader approaches the container. This allows you to approach the container more slowly, minimizing the risk of damage and accidents.
Automatic lubrication system
The twist locks used to pick up and rotate the containers need to be lubricated from time to time. Our automatic lubrication system counts how many times they rotate and lubricates them completely automatically after a certain number of rotations. This ensures they continue to operate smoothly.
(Noise) attenuation
Our damping system absorbs heavy shocks and noise. This minimizes the impact on the spreader and on people in the vicinity.
Electrical
Spreaders we design for loading one container at a time can also be supplied electrically. Although a hydraulic system is more powerful, an electric spreader is more energy-efficient and produces less noise. Because the electric spreader does not use oil, there is no risk of water contamination in the event of a malfunction.
Twin Twenty detection
Our 'Twin Twenty' container detection checks whether one or two containers are hanging beneath the spreader and whether the spreader is also in the correct position for the number of containers to be lifted. This way, you always work safely.
